Henry is a researcher in CSM's new Alliance for the Development of Additive Processing Technologies (ADAPT) Advanced Characterization Center. With the goal of integrating additive manufacturing into the practical manufacturing sphere, he has developed high-throughput analysis routines for profiling pore structures that are present in selective laser melting (SLM) parts. These results are used in parallel with known processing parameters to develop machine learning models that can predict new processing routes with the highest likelihood of producing parts with a specified set of desirable properties (pore structure, ductility, yield strength, etc.). This speaks to the overall goal of the ADAPT Center—to develop learning models that take into account manufacturing facets such as powder properties, printing machine types, and printing settings, which can inform networks of printing machines when making new components.
