Our additive manufacturing (AM) research is performed for the Alliance for the Development of Additive Processing Technologies (ADAPT). One of our mottos in this field is “we solve data problems and we solve problems with data.” This includes developing machine learning platforms for part and process qualification, optimizing new materials for AM, and developing optimized process parameters for unique processes and raw materials. This work is done in close partnership with Citrine Informatics. We also develop new data management platforms and high-throughput characterization capabilities to facilitate data quality and curation.

ADAPT is the subject of the feature article in the January 2018 issue of Additive Manufacturing magazine. The article, “How Machine Learning Is Moving AM Beyond Trial and Error” highlights ADAPT’s machine learning approach to materials manufacturing and discovery in AM. Research Professor Dr. Branden Kappes was interviewed for the article.
