Our composites research integrates chemical engineering of new composite systems with mechanical behavior and manufacturing process optimization. The common theme across all of our composites programs is improving the recyclability and energy footprint of composites manufacturing and use. The core of our composites projects reside within the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI). We collaborate closely with the National Wind Technology Center and their new Composites Manufacturing Education and Technology (CoMET) facility as well as with local companies such as Vartega.

An article entitled “Kinetics and temperature evolution during the bulk polymerization of methyl methacrylate for vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding” by Yasuhito Suzuki (Beam Team postdoc) et al. was accepted by Composites: Part A and will be published in the January 2018 issue.
